Eggs giggling, jostling each other with happiness

Another glorious day, with eggs loving the sun on shells

It was a golden, soulful connection

With the heat seeping through to their yolks

Consternation scrambles through the joy

Someone calls “Where is Egguardo?”

“And Eggwina!” Another shrieks

As the sun continues to rise, panic sets in.

The eggship quietens, as realisation dawns

That the sizzling and splatting bubbling from the hotplate

The delicious scent, aromatic egg-deliciousness

Represents their friends sacrifice to the Sun gods

Everything comes at a cost

Sunshine, happiness, friends, comfort

Give and take, live, and die

Que sera!

There was nothing to do in this room, except to wait and worry.

I’d been trapped for days. No food. No water. No hope.

Bucket in the corner. Thin mattress on the floor. My source of warmth, a greying blanket, and the clothes I was wearing.

It was still autumn, and I knew I could hang in there for a while, as long as I wasn’t cold.

I’d been dozing, when suddenly there was somebody at the window. Legs on a ladder.

Without thinking, I screamed and thumped on the window. Without knowing, was this friend or foe.

Purple sky at night, what a delight!

I was at my husband’s shoulder as he took this photo.

Statically capturing in print, what in life was truly captivating.

He was focussed on the palace beyond. I was enthralled with the foreground radiance.

The twilight colours, the lights of the fountain, the pink shades of the flower,

all flowing so beautifully.

Embodied in that jewel, connected to the universe, sounds, scent, ambience.

I breathed deeply and it seemed I could smell the sweet perfume, although it was but a sculpture.

I reached to touch those soft, stone, petals.

“You drag me to these markets every, bloody, weekend! Nothing ever changes!” moans David, lagging behind his wife.

Linda turns to face her ‘dragging his heels’ husband and yells “Calm down! It is the one thing I ask you to do with me. How does it hurt you? Really!”

Then with wide staring eyes and gaping mouth, Linda watches her husband disappear into the sudden sinkhole, enveloped in a sand coffin. Before managing even to scream, the hole closes over David.

“Right! That’s different.” Linda chuckles and shaking her head, wanders off to listen to the band.

I long for green.

The longing of the upper-middle-class.

In iso, but not without resources. Working from home, and income not an issue.

As I ride my computer each day, this is my view.

It could be that nothing is wrong. It could be just another day, in wonderland.

I long for green.

At least there is a glimpse of sun through clouds.

At least the smog has disappeared.

I could be here alone in this metropolis.

A pure moment, when nobody has escaped to their rooftop for air, and a sense of freedom.

I long for green.
