Photo prompt @ Sandra Cook
I’d slept like an innocent.
Awoken fresh and clear minded.
Even after all that had happened.
My feet hit the floor.
I thought, cold.
Felt, fresh.
Smiled.
A visit to the toilet.
Brush of teeth and hair.
The feeling of rebirth, renewal, soared.
My hair shone; skin glowed.
All was good again.
I walked to the balcony.
Opened the French doors.
The smell hit hard and fast.
As I breathed in, deep.
I gagged.
Mind buckled, followed by knees.
And I collapsed to the deck.
The nightmare wasn’t over.
It had followed me.
Into the light. (96 words)

Such a wonderful wakeup completely ruined by reality! That was quite the about-turn!

Sounds like persistent evil. Though it feels like you’ll never be free of it, eventually light will scorch it into oblivion. Good story!

I like how you grasped the reality as being a nightmare. How many p[eople wake up to storm damage feeling that the nightmare has just begun?

That ending gave me the shivers – I can’t imagine what it did for her! Very clever Trish.
Here’s mine!

Dear Trish,
Sometimes we just can’t wake up from the nightmare, can we? Well done.

I was expecting a humorous end, but it turned pretty dark. Good one.
