Friday Fictioneers – Cancelled

Photo prompt @ Jeff Arnold

Somewhere over that rainbow, a better life awaits.

Something to look forward to. Something to hope for.

In my country (a lucky country) we’ve moved through several heartaches

Drought

Widespread bush fires

Months of unbreathable, smoke-filled air

Floods

Covid-19

We were looking for the light at the end of a tunnel, the gold at the end of the rainbow

And we got Corona Virus. Isolation. Quarantine. Lock down.

Families separated. Dying abandoned. Easter, and weddings, and funerals cancelled.

As time stands still. Lives put on hold. These boats are waiting.

All heading out to sea, is what I see!

Friday Fictioneers is a weekly challenge set by Rochelle Wisoff Fields to write a 100-word story in response to a photo prompt. You can find other stories here.

  1. Hard times for many, Trish … and yet, indeed, the boats will sail and the air will flow and the people will go out and about and life will move on again. Not the same perhaps, but life rarely is about stasis, anyway. Stay well and a hello from NYC …

    1. Na’ama in NYC. Love that city! And really feeling for you guys. All of our attention and sympathies looking at China, Italy and Spain and then ‘holy guacamole’ NYC. Good luck to you all there. Thanks for reading and commenting.

      1. Yes, NYC is a good apple … and currently we’re going through some very difficult times. Field hospitals in Central Park, the whole city shut down, hundreds lost to the virus every day. But, we’ll get through it. We got through tough times before, and many New Yorkers are showing the amazing kindness and hardiness that they’d showed before. We are all in this together, and we’ll get through it together.

    1. Thank you Brenda. I didn’t mean to write something depressing 😦 Although I’m a melancholic personality, I do tend to be optimistic and hopeful. I wasn’t crying, just observing. Oh well. Thanks for reading and commenting. Appreciated!

  2. Things always look brighter on the other side. It’s hard to look past the terrible thing happening now when the next thing’s worse. We have to hope Covid-19 is the worst, and things will get better. Those boats will float again.

    1. It is a challenge to overcome to be sure. But the good thing is all the positive interactions, despite the isolation. People reaching out and looking out for each other. Thanks for commenting.

  3. WE can but hope we’ll change our priorities on the other side of this – kindness, consideration, more thought for an environment that has been recovering as we go into lock down. Lessons to be learned. Keep safe and well
